Some things that meant the world to me
Oil paintings on cardboard, 20×20cm
(Ongoing series)
This series began in late October 2025.
20×20cm, oil on cardboard, returning to places and memories that were once so present: the clouds of Venice, the sunset in Lyon, fragments of landscapes during the journeys in between.
The paintings tend toward abstraction. There’s a lot of sky, a lot of tension. Some are immediately recognizable, while others less so. I paint from memory, often months after the fact, which means the work is about the atmosphere of the moment and the feeling I had rather than accuracy to the landscape.
Looking back, I now understand that the creative block I was experiencing happened because I was trying to paint for an inexistent audience. I was trying to adapt the format, the subject, and the way that I painted for the review of imaginary people, critics that only existed in my head. So, instead I decided to flip the script completely and paint for myself. There isn’t much room for performing in the 20×20cm format.
The series will continue until I either run out of memories to paint or until I discover why these moments still matter so much to me.
